The last working slate mine in England. Guided mine tours deep underground, browse the visitor centre. Learn the history of the best and most beautiful Honister Green Slate. Join a mine tour and go deep underground. Explore the awesome caverns, learn how the Victorian miners worked using hand tools by candle light. Take A66 to Keswick. Arriving in Keswick drive on the B5289 signposted Borrowdale valley and Rosthwaite. Drive on this road for approximately 10 miles. Honister Slate Mine is situated at the top of the pass on the left.
