Each of our locos including River Irt, the oldest working 15" gauge engine in the world, travel some 6000 miles per year on average, hauling trains consisting of' 'breath of fresh air' open carriages, practical open-sided ones and cosy covered saloons. That's more trains, on a longer line, than any other heritage railway in the Lake District. As you might expect with Britain's favourite view and deepest lake in the next valley, England's highest mountain at its head, Eskdale and indeed all the railway, is in the Lake District National Park, beyond the commercialism and hustle and bustle, simply surrounded by spectacular beauty.
Cafes and gift shops at both ends of the line, exclusive 'Walks from Ratty' with Wainwright, cycle trails and cycle hire. New children's adventure play area at Dalegarth with free line guide for adult travellers and free scratch card game for journeying kids.
Opening times vary according to season and all our facilities are open whenever we are running trains. See our timetable for details of all our trains running during 2010.
