This is the longest canal in Britain, built as a single waterway - yet one of the least busy. At 127 miles, this is the longest canal in Britain and via its connection with the Aire & Calder at Leeds, offers a coast-to-coast route across the North of England.
There is plenty to do and see from boating, walking, cycling and angling with great history and array of wildlife. The development of the Liverpool Canal Link will connect the Central and South Docks, allowing boats to pass from the canal to the Albert Dock. British Waterways, which now owns and operates Liverpool South Docks waterspace, is the public corporation that cares for the 2,200-mile network of canals and rivers in England, Scotland and Wales.
The organisation works in partnership with private companies, local authorities, voluntary groups and other government agencies to protect and enhance the waterways and benefit the communities through which they run.
