The Lowry, Quays Theatre
Thu 23 February – Sat 10 March
Join the Library Theatre Company in February for a rare treat…
D.H. Lawrence is renowned for writing some of the most provocative and passionate novels ever written yet he is also a great playwright.
His skills are nowhere more evident than in The Daughter-in-Law, which receives a much overdue revival by the company described by the Manchester Evening News as “just about the best theatre we’ve got”.

The Daughter-in-Law is something of a lost gem - way ahead of its time in its open and frank depiction of relationships; it is a passionate account of a young marriage and a clash between sons, a determined mother, and an intrepid wife, a classic piece of Lawrence but with a foot firmly in the modern day.
“Its themes… are sex, class, dependence and freedom; they are couched in the language of a mining community, whose speech is both authentic and poetic”
Richard Eyre on The Daughter-in-Law
The Guardian
