East Lancashire Railway launches the Rail Ale Trail

17th June 2011

Categories: Modern History News

Pub lovers and tee-totallers unite! East Lancashire Railway have launched their Rail Ale Trail

The trail has been designed to offer a unique experience at the East Lancashire Railway encouraging visitors to explore the area and visit some of the best local real ale pubs using the railway as the means to get to the places. The trail joins the dots from station to station and unlocks some of the hidden gems along the 12-mile ELR route.

The ELR in partnership with three local authorities, Bury, Rossendale and Rochdale Councils and Modern History have developed a handy A5 guide for visitors who want to follow the trail at their own pace and that includes some of the best pubs, breweries and even a Temperance bar as well as historical accounts and quirky stories. The trail can be started and finished at any station and is available all year around. Be sure to check running services at www.eastlancsrailway.org.uk before you travel though.

For a more in-depth tour with plenty of fun to be had, ELR is also offering guided Rail Ale Tours with a professionally qualified tour guide on selected weekends throughout the year.

And what better date to start with the first ever tour than Father’s Day on Sunday 19th June! Places are limited and pre-booking is essential to avoid disappointment. There will be two tours running on the 19th June: 11.30am to Ramsbottom and 12pm to Summerseat.

To enquire about forthcoming tours, book your place on the Father’s Day Special, or to request your free Rail Ale Trail guide please contact East Lancashire Railway on 0161 764 7790 (lines open daily 10am – 4pm)
