To celebrate National Storytelling Week, Modern History is challenging kids to switch off the TV and explore some of the region’s top historic attractions to find out what life was like in the past and be in with a chance to win some top prizes.
The North West is packed full of stories and with half-term coming up we want to hear yours. Simply take the family along to one of a host of attractions open across the region and get your kids to write up the story of their day out, to be in with a chance of winning a video camera or Horrible Histories books and DVDs.
The competition is open to children aged between 5 and 12 and there are two categories 5 to 8 and 9 to 12, the winner of each will receive a video camera so they can film their own stories while runners up will receive Horrible Histories books and DVDs.
The competition is open until February 28th and all entries should be sent through to the following email address: tellyourstory@modernhistory.co.uk.
As the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, the North West was home to events which shook the world and saw the rise and spread of factories, mills, railways, canals and steam engines. There were also great advances in science and the arts and campaigns for social change such as the introduction of votes for women were in full swing.
The stories can be a straightforward review of the attraction – or kids can let their imaginations run riot and tell us how they think the children of the industrial revolution may have lived back in the 1800’s.
There's a whole range of activities going on this half term to entertain you in a variety of places around the North West.
Visit Lark Hill Place, a real Victorian Street at Salford Museum and Art Gallery or explore the new Revolution Gallery at MOSI in Manchester. There's lots of activities to enjoy at People's History Museum in Manchester or take part in the quizzes at Bolton Museum Aquarium and Archive. For fun in Lancashire pop into the Harris Museum & Art Gallery or Helmshore Mills Textile Museum. Experience Victorian week at the National Waterways Museum in Ellesmere Port. That's just a snippet of what's on in the region for more information click here.
