MOSI
MOSI offers extensive facilities for early years, primary and secondary schools in its new Learning Loft. This new area consists of three classrooms; a science lab, lunch areas; storage facilities and toilets. Many sessions also incorporate an on-gallery element.
You can now also bring your class to watch a show in MOSI’s great 4D Theatre, with moving seats, water spray and air blast! They have a range of online resources for various educational groups including English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and for teachers of English as a Foreign Language (EFL). MOSI suggests making a preliminary visit before bringing a class so that you can familiarise yourself with the site, make a risk assessment and make decisions about the experiences.
People’s History Museum
As part of the museum’s recent redevelopment, they have introduced new facilities and opportunities for learning, including a better Learning Studio, a fully equipped Mini-Theatre at the heart of the museum for our expanded Living History performances and The Little People’s History Museum story sessions, as well as additional spaces for lectures, talks and workshops.
All of our programmes support appropriate frameworks – from pre-school provision in The Little People’s History Museum to A-level studies in the archive, there is something available for everyone.
Astley Green Colliery Museum
At the Astley Green Colliery Museum they have a dedicated school room and have come up with a typical school visit agenda which can be found on the their website. They do not charge for these visits but donations are always welcome and can be made in donation boxes around the museum buildings. They do also carry out Outreach activities to schools or interested groups should they be unable to visit the site.
Bury Transport Museum
The museum provides dedicated educational activities with a difference. Book one of their popular curriculum-mapped programs for a unique experience that brings the subject matter to life, be it travelling on a steam train whilst learning about rationing and civil defence, seeing first-hand how industry has literally shaped the landscape of Lancashire and learning the do’s and don’ts of safe fieldwork. They offer a wide array of hands on activities, modern facilities and a dedicated education team, ensuring imaginatively devised learning opportunities.
