Honister Slate Mine
Honister Slate Mine is the last working slate mine in England. Learn the history of the best and most beautiful Honister Green Slate. You can join a mine tour and go deep underground, explore the awesome caverns and learn how the Victorian miners worked using hand tools by candle light. Those who dare and are over 1m30cm can try their own Via Ferrata! They also have live displays of traditional slate processing skills which you can see on the FREE Working Factory Trail. Booking is advisable in holiday periods.

Blackwell is one of Britain’s finest houses from the turn of the last century and survives in a truly remarkable state of preservation retaining almost all of its original decorative features, including the rare and fragile hessian wall-hangings in the Dining Room. They offer a number of benefits and deals for Group travel.You can save up to 40% off the standard admission charge for groups of 10 or more arriving in one vehicle For the group organiser Blackwell accommodates them with a FREE familiarisation visit prior to making the booking (if booked in advance). They will also receive FREE admission when bringing a group of 10 or more and an additional FREE place when bringing 40 or more paying visitors. There is also a free talk for groups of 15 or more.
There is free coach parking available which will be reserved for you on receipt of your booking form and they also offer benefits for the Coach Driver which include, FREE admission and a FREE refreshment voucher.
Blackwell’s Tea Room can cater up to 25 people but would require larger groups to divide into two or more sittings. To avoid delays they suggest you pre-book all meals and refreshments. They also offer FREE catering for the organiser when catering is booked from the group menu for 10 or more paying visitors.
